In 2012-2013, Jay Moran enters his 9th year as the Director of Athletics at the University of Bridgeport and his 22nd year in Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation.
Since his arrival at Bridgeport, the Purple Knights have won four National Titles in Gymnastics, three ECC Championships, one NCAA regional Championship, 11 ECAC Championships, and earned 15 NCAA appearances. Along with numerous team accomplishments the UB program has had several All-American, All-Conference and Scholar athletes as well as Coaches of the Year during his tenure.
Jay is the former President of the East Coast Conference Athletics Directors Council. Presently, he serves on the Board of Directors of the Eastern College Athletic Conference.
Moran came to UB from Albertus Magnus College, where he was the director of athletics. At Albertus Magnus, Moran managed all aspects of a Division III program including supervising all athletic staff, coordinating compliance on a conference and national level, managing the budget and fundraising for various projects and instructing physical education classes. During his tenure at Albertus, the Falcons reached the postseason in several sports for the first time, including a first-ever NCAA Regional appearance.
Prior to his work at Albertus Magnus College in nearby New Haven, Conn., Moran was the assistant athletic director for facilities, recreation and intramurals at St. Joseph College in Hartford, Conn., from 1993-2002. He also served as the College’s head cross country coach for nine seasons. His teams became one of the largest and most competitive cross country squads in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
Moran began his career in collegiate athletics as an undergraduate at the University of Connecticut. At UConn, he worked as a student assistant of recreation before moving into a role as the director of recreation and intramurals during the 1987-88 school year. Moran also worked as the department's administrative assistant for home game management in 1988-89.
Moran is a graduate of the University of Connecticut and holds a Masters of Science degree in Management from Albertus Magnus College. He resides in Manchester, Conn. with his wife, Patty, and their four children; Kristen, Elizabeth, James and Julia. Jay is a former member of the Manchester Board of Education and presently he is the Deputy Mayor of Manchester.
