Baseball Stopped Twice At St. Thomas Aquinas On Saturday

Pomona, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team dropped both ends of an East Coast Conference baseball doubleheader on the road versus St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday, as STAC won game one, 13-3, and completed the sweep with a 6-5, walk-off victory in game two.  UB is now 22-17-1 overall and 11-8 in the ECC.  STAC is now 32-11 overall and 13-6 in conference play.

In the opener, senior Alnaydo Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y.) went 3-for-4 with a home run and two runs batted.  Junior Casey McCone (Milford, Conn.) added two hit and one RBI in game one.

In game two, the Purple Knights battled back from a 4-0 deficit to take a 5-4 lead in the top of the seventh inning, only to see the host Spartans plate two runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to grab the 6-5 victory.  Juniors Casey Ouellette (New Canaan, Conn.) and Justin Carey (Amherst, Mass.), each had two hits in the nightcap for UB.

The Purple Knights and the Spartans are scheduled to close out their four-game weekend series with a single, nine-inning game at Bridgeport's Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m.  Sunday is also slated to be the Purple Knights' Senior Night.
