Purple Knights Set To Make 19th NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship Appearance

Bridgeport, Conn,-For the seventh time under the direction of 13th-year head coach Mike Ruane and the 19th time in school history, the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team will participate in  the 64-team, NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament.  Bridgeport will head to the 2013 NCAA Division II East Regional with a 21-9 overall record after winning the East Coast Conference Championship Tournament on Saturday with a 61-53 victory over Dowling College to receive the ECC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II championship   The Purple Knights will be the number seven seed at the regional, and they will face the number two seed, Saint Anselm College Hawks, out of the Northeast-10 Conference on Saturday, March 16, 2013.  All games in the 2013 NCAA Division II East Regional will be played in Manchester, New Hampshire on the campus of Southern New Hampshire University.   Game time for the UB/St. Anselm game is slated for 2:30 p.m.

Seeding for the 2013 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball East Regional is as follows:

# 1-Franklin Pierce, # 2 St. Anselm, # 3-Assumption, # 4-New Haven
# 5- Dominican (N.Y.), # 6 Southern New Hampshire # 7 Bridgeport,
# 8 Bloomfield.

Saturday, March 16, Division II Men's Basketball East Regional Quarterfinal Match-ups:

# 3 Assumption (20-7) vs. # 6 Southern New Hampshire (19-10)-12 noon
# 2 St. Anselm (23-5) vs. # 7 Bridgeport (21-9)-2:30 pm
# 1 Franklin Pierce (21-8)  vs. # 8 Bloomfield (17-12)-6:00 pm
# 4 New Haven (19-8) vs. # 5 Dominican (N.Y.) (22-6), 8:30 pm

The 2013 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball East Regional semifinals will be played on Sunday March 17th, and the regional final will be held on Tuesday, March 19th.
