Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team played its first draw of the 2011 season on Sunday evening as the Purple Knights played to a hard-fought 1-1 double overtime with the Queens (N.Y.) College Knights in the regular season finale for both teams. UB is now 9-6-1 overall and 4-2-1 in East Coast Conference play. QC is now 7-7-4 overall and 3-3-2 in the ECC.
Bridgeport got on the board first in the game when junior Lee Middleton (Newcastle, England) scored his fifth goal of the season at the 33:36 mark of the first half from an assist by Patric Brundin (Gothenburg, Sweden).
Queens would tie the game at 1-1 with just under 15 minutes to play in the second half when Danny Stoker scored his 13th goal of the 2011 campaign when he found the lower right corner of the net off a free kick.
With Sunday's tie, the Purple Knights will now face NYIT in Wednesday's East Coast Conference Championship Tournament semifinal. UB would enter the tourney as the number two seed and host the match if the Bears lose to St. Thomas Aquinas on Monday afternoon. If NYIT wins or ties, Bridgeport will be the number three seed and have to travel to Long Island on Wednesday.
