UB Advances To ECC Women's Championship Final

Trailing 44-42 with 3:15 to play, Bridgeport tied the game at
44-44 when sophomore Julia Colley (Harlow,
England) hit a shot at the 3:03 mark. The Purple Knights would
then take a 46-44 lead with 2:04 to play which they never
relinquished when junior Ana-Maria Kammer
(Frankfurt, Germany) hit a pair of free throws.
After Dowling's Connie Simmons (FR,
Syosset, NY) split two free throws with 18 seconds to play to make
the score 46-45, Bridgeport would then ice the game as senior
Sidney Parsons (Chandler, AZ) hit two free throws
with 10 seconds to play, and classmate Emma Beddome (Melbourne, Australia) added two more from the
line with just six second to play to make the final score 50-45 in
favor of the Purple Knights. Beddome led all players in the
game with 11 rebounds. Bridgeport held a 46-37 advantage on
the glass in the game.
Dowling sophomore Hannah Krueger (Mentone,
IN) led all scorers in the game with 17 points off the Golden
Lions' bench. She was joined in double figures by
graduate student Christie Marrone (Brooklyn, NY),
who had 10 points.
Junior Meghan Lewis (Spring, TX) was the only
Bridgeport player to reach double-figure scoring, as she netted a
team-high 13 points.
UB now advances to Sunday's ECC Women's Basketball
Championship Final, where they will face Molloy, the tournamnet's
number two seed. The 2010 East Coast Conference Women's
Basketball Championship Tournament Final will tip-off at 12 noon
and be played at C.W. Post University in Brookville, NY. The winner
of Sunday's ECC Final receives an automatic invitation to the NCAA
Division II Championship Tournament that begins next week.
