Denton, TX-After finishing as co-United States
Gymnastics Association National Team Champions with Cornell in
2009, the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights claimed the
outright 2010 USAG Team National Championship on Friday night
taking first place with a score of 193.9750. Host Texas
Women's University was second with a score of 193.600, Cornell was
third with a score of 192.525 and Rutgers was fourth with a total
of 190.700.
The Purple Knights grabbed the lead in the meet after the
third rotation with a fine showing in the floor exercise led by
junior
Lorraine
Galow (Suwanee, GA) and sophomore
Miranda Der
(Palo Alto, CA), who each scored 9.800 which tied for first place
in the event.
UB completed its championship night with a strong showing on the
vault led by freshman Monica
Mesalles (Barcelona Spain) who tied for second in the
event with a score of 9.775.
Other event top finishers for Bridgeport were
Emily
Repko (Gilbertsville, PA) who took third on the beam
with a score of 9.775, and Lorraine Galow tied for fourth on the
bars with a score of 9.725.
Action wraps up at the 2010 USAG National Championships on
Saturday evening with individual event action.
