Danbury, Conn.-For the third straight week, two members of the University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team have earned weekly Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II Women's Gymnastics Athletes of the Week Awards for their outstanding performances in meets that took place during the week February 6-12, 2017.
Freshman Maya Reimers (New York, N.Y.) has been named the ECAC Division II Gymnast of the Week, and for the second consecutive seven-day span and third time this season, classmate Nina Whittaker (Salem, N.H.) earned ECAC Division II Rookie of the Week accolades.
Reimers finished first on beam at the Cornell Big Red Invitational, a meet that featured competitors from all three NCAA divisions, scoring a 9.875 to take the top spot in the event. The freshman also scored a 9.875 in floor exercise, the third-highest mark in the competition.
Whittaker tied a personal-best 9.8 on the vault in Bridgeport's meet with Cornell, Brockport and Ithaca last Saturday. The scored tied her with teammate Hope Tralli for first in the event.
Up next, the University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team will travel to the West Coast for a meet this coming Monday, February 20 at UCLA with Utah State.
