Bloomsburg, Pa.-Senior Kasey Kenny (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored the only goal of the match just 9:28 into play, and sophomore goalkeeper Julia Hansson (Tocksfors, Sweden) made it stand up by making nine saves to record her fourth shutout in six games, as the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team, ranked fifth in the nation in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division II National Poll, notched a hard-fought 1-0 road win over the host Bloomsburg University Huskies on Tuesday night. With the win, UB remains undefeated on the season at 6-0-0. Bloomsburg is now 3-3-0 overall so far in 2011.
Kenny scored her team-leading six goal of the season as she dribbled the ball past the Bloomsburg keeper, Frances Nicoletti who made four saves on the night, and tapped the ball into the back of net.
Hansson made six first half stops and added three in the second half to record her fourth clean sheet of 2011 for the Purple Knights and lower her goals against average to 0.33.
Bloomsburg outshot Bridgeport, 14-11, on the night.
UB will return to action on Saturday night at home when they face defending East Coast Conference champion, C.W. Post. Game time at Knights Field is set for 6:00 p.m.
