Bridgeport, Conn. –The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team defeated visiting Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks, 1-0, in their East Coast Conference opener on Saturday afternoon at Knights Field. The Purple Knights improved their record to 2-3-1 on the season and 1-0-0 in ECC play. The Redhawks fall to 1-4-0 overall and 0-1-0 in conference action.
Sophomore Maegen Doyle (Harwich, England) scored the lone goal of the match, her third of 2017, with 24:14 remaining in the first half. Freshman midfielder Sara Berglund (Borlange, Sweden) assisted on the tally.
Junior goalkeeper Jennifer Wendelius (Lidingo, Sweden) made two saves to record her third clean sheet.
Freshman midfielder Amanda Ebbesson (Solna, Sweden) made several key plays defensively to help keep the Purple Knights out of danger and also took two shots on the day.
The Purple Knights outshot the Red Hawks, 11-4, in the contest and finished with a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
