Women's Swimming Noufissa Chbihi To Represent Morocco At African Open Swimming Championshps
Bridgeport, Conn.-University
of Bridgeport women's swimmer Noufissa Chbihi has
been selected to the Moroccan National Team that will compete in
the Tenth African Open Swimming Championships that will be held in
Casablanca, Morocco from September 13-19, 2010. Chbihi, who
is entering her sophomore year at UB and currently resides in North
Haven, Conn., will compete in six events at the African
Championships, the 200 Freestyle, the 100 and 200 Butterfly, the
200 and 400 Individual Medley plus the 5km Open Water Swim which
will take place on the final day of the competition.
Said University of Bridgeport head men's and women's swimming
coach Brad Flood, who will be travelling to
Casablanca for the meet, "This is a great honor for Noufissa to
represent her native country, especially with the event taking
place in Morocco. She is the first member of a University of
Bridgeport swimming team to be named to their national team for
such a prestigious competition."
UB director of athletics Jay Moran stated, "We
are extremely proud of Noufissa's selection to the Moroccan
National Team for the African Championships, and we wish her the
best of luck as she travels back to her homeland. An honor
like a UB student-athlete being selected for a national team is a
true testament to the strength of our programs. Kudos to
coach Flood and the women's swimming team."
Last season, Chbihi was a member of the University of Bridgeport
women's swimming team that finished 14th at the 2010 NCAA Division
II Women's Swimming & Diving National Championship and took
first out the Division I/II teams at the Metro Conference
Championships and finished second overall.
