In 2019, Mike DeLellis enters his seventh season as assistant baseball coach for the Purple after serving as a graduate assistant in 2011-12. DeLellis will be in charge of the hitters and the catching position along with working with the defense, practice preparation, assisting in recruiting student athletes and coaching third base on game days.
During his tenure as assistant coach, DeLellis has aided the program in reaching new heights. The program has reached the ECC conference championship tournament every year DeLellis has been on staff. This included a program first NCAA East Regional at large big in 2016, where the Purple Knights captured the 5 seed in the tournament.
As a player at the University of Bridgeport, Mike was a two-year starter at catcher and served as captain his senior year. In his senior year, DeLellis helped lead the team to the most successful season in school history going 31-16 and to the first ECC championship appearance. Being a standout defensive catcher, DeLellis had the highest caught stealing percentage in the conference. Before coming to Bridgeport, DeLellis played two years at Burlington County Community College in New Jersey where he was also the catcher and again captain his sophomore year. In his sophomore campaign, Mike was a vital part of leading the Barons to their most successful season in school history reaching the Super Regional’s just falling short of the World Series.
Mike is a graduate of the University of Bridgeport where he majored in General Studies with a Business Concentration. DeLellis also works at the school’s Wheeler Recreation Center, where he serves as the Assistant Director. Along with working at UB, Mike also aids as a Director and 18u Head coach in the Connecticut Gators AAU Baseball Program out of Orange CT. Mike resides in Stratford with his wife Erin and two sons Blake and Cameron.
