Former UB Standout Piotr Safronczyk Earns Honorable Mention Division I All-American Honors
Bridgeport Graduate Stars At Duke University While Pursuing A Master's Degree
Federal Way, Wash.-University of Bridgeport graduate and former men's swimming standout Piotr Safronczyk, who won the NCAA Division II 100-yard Breaststroke titles in 2010 and 2011, earned Division I Honorable Mention All-American honors for Duke University in the same event this past week (53.77 Finals/53.11 Preliminaries).
Piotr also placed 22nd in the Men's 200-yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:57.22.
Safronczyk was the 2012 ACC Men's 100-yard Breaststroke Champion and a member of the ACC 2nd place 200-yard Medley Relay team for Duke.
It appears Piotr is the first NCAA Division II swimmer, male or female, to transfer from an NCAA Division II institution to an NCAA Division I institution and place at the Division I Championships.
Safronczyk graduated from UB in May 2011 with BS in International Business and is completing his Masters of Management Studies from Duke's Fuqua School of Business.
