Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's and men's swimming team celebrated their 2018-19 home opening meet in fine style on Saturday afternoon at the Wheeler recreation Center Natatorium by winning a total of 18 of 22 events in a dual meet against the Ducks of Stevens Institute of Technology. UB women topped Stevens Tech, 107-93, and the men completed the sweep with a 133.50-71.50 victory.
Three Purple Knight women were double event winners on Saturday as senior Nina Stegu (Ljublijana, Slovenia) took top honors in the 200 Free (1:13.06) and the 100 Free (59.34), freshman Diana Naglic (Muta, Slovenia) took first in the 400 IM (5:13.66) and the 400 Free (4:36.45), and junior Mariia Rezhylo (Kiev, Ukraine) touched first in the 100 Fly (104.24) and the 100 Breaststroke (1:12.68).
On the men's side, juniors Erik Hren (Maribor, Slovenia) and Juan Patino (Cali, Columbia) were double individual event winners, as Hren won the 200 Free (1:53.47) and the 400 Free (4:04.82), and Patino took first in the 50 Free (23.89) and the 100 Free (52.65).
Up nest, the UB men's and women's swimming teams head to Pace University for a dual meet next Friday afternoon.
