Dawn Stearns is entering into her 11th season at the helm of the University of Bridgeport softball program. The 2019 season was one for the books for Stearns and the UB Softball program. The Purple Knights won a record breaking 33 games while capturing their first ever East Coast Conference Championship Title. They also advanced to the NCAA DII Regionals for the first time in 30 years. Coach Stearns has now won over 180 games in her career at Bridgeport and looking to grab her 200th win next season.
UB softball is also once again a leader in academics throughout all of NCAA softball. UBSB ended the 2019 season with a 3.76 GPA. Bridgeport was third in the Nation for highest GPA for the fourth consecutive year in 2018. Results from the past season will be out in September. Her philosophy of a great balance of high academic and great athletics performance has proven to be a success for the Bridgeport Softball program.
In 2019, UB softball had six All-ECC players along with three All-East Regions selections.
With ten new incoming players this fall, from all over the country, coach Stearns is looking forward to their continued growth and success as a program on and off the field.
Stearns came to UB from Mitchell College in 2009, where she served as assistant coach and before that was assistant head coach at Daniel Hand High School in Madison, Conn. Along with her collegiate and high school experience, Stearns has led teams from Shoreline Sting and Outlaws programs since 2003.
Dawn is a graduate of Gettysburg College with a BA in Business and Economics. Stearns was a four-year starting catcher and All-Mid Atlantic Conference selection, who still holds the defensive record at Gettysburg with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
