Several UB Fall Sports Student-Athletes Receive Weekly Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Honors
Purple Knights Honored From Women's Volleyball, Men's Soccer And Women's Soccer
New Haven, Conn.-Five student-athletes from various University of Bridgeport fall sports programs have earned recognition from Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) for their outstanding play in matches that took place during the first week of the 2022 season.
Sophomore Paola Hernandez (Bayamon, P.R.) earned CACC Women's Volleyball Player of the Week honors, as she averaged 4.25 kills and 2.62 digs per set for the Purple Knights. In four matches last week, Hernandez had at least 13 kills and had a pair of double-doubles. She reached a single-match, career best 21 kills twice last week versus Adelphi and New Haven, plus Paola chipped in a total of six service aces and six assists in the four matches.
From the UB men's soccer program, Clement Anet (Grad., Cosse le Vivien, France) was selected as the CACC Goalkeeper of the Week, and freshman Maximilian Kissel (Wiesbaden, Germany) has been named conference Rookie of the Week.
Anet went 1-0-1 on the week with a 1.00 goals against average making a total of ten saves in two matches with a .833 saves percentage. In a 1-1 tie with Southern Connecticut State on Sunday, the only goal he allowed came on a penalty kick.
Kissel netted the match-winning goal at New Haven in the Purple Knights' 2022 season opener when he scored with just over 20 minutes to play in the contest.
From the Bridgeport women's soccer program, sophomore Clara Karlsson (Örnsköldsvik, Sweden) was chosen as the CACC Goalkeeper of the Week, and junior Leigh-Ann Ramsay (Bronx, N.Y.) earned a spot on the conference's Honor Roll.
Karlsson made six saves in UB's season opener against Southern Connecticut State University on Friday night to earned her seventh career shutout and give new Purple Knights' head coach Tania Armellino a victory in her debut on the Bridgeport sidelines.
Ramsey had three points in her team's two matches on the week, as she netted goal and had an assist in the win over SCSU.
