Softball's Mya Jones Brings Home Second Straight CACC Rookie Of The Week Nod
Batted .545 Last Week With Seven RBI And A Grand Slam Home Run
New Haven. Conn.-For the second straight week, University of Bridgeport softball standout Mya Jones (Fr., Milford, Del.) has been selected as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week. This week she shares the award with Olivia Kennedy of Caldwell University for their outstanding play in games that took place from March 27 through April 2, 2023.
Mya continued to do big-time damage at the dish for the Purple Knights in a 5-1 week for the squad, as she batted .545 (12-of-22) with a .818 slugging average and a .583 on base percentage. She had one homer (a grand slam), seven RBI and scored five runs in her team's six games and had three doubles. So far in 2023, Mya is batting .360 with a team leading five home runs and 29 RBI.
Three Purple Knights from Spring Sports team also earned spots on the CACC's Honor Roll in their sports this week in Jones' teammate Meg McFarland (Sr., Monroe, Conn.) in softball, Danielle Kreitler (Grad., Shelton, Conn.) from women's lacrosse and Joe Nemchek (Grad., Trumbull, Conn.) from baseball.
