Three Purple Knights Earn Weekly CACC Honors
Men's Soccer's Hugo Franceschi And Volleyball's Hailey Jessen Plus Jaden Drollinger Recognized For Their Top-Notch Play Last Week
New Haven, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport Purple Knights are well-represented again in this week's listing of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Fall Sports Awards, as three UB student-athletes earned weekly CACC recognition and one more was named to the Honor Roll in their sports for their outstanding play in contests that took place from September 11-17, 2023.
From men's soccer, Hugo Franceschi (Fr., Toulouse, France) was named both Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Week for the second straight seven-day span. He shares this week's rookie award with Abdoulaye Kamagate of Chestnut Hill.
In two matches last week, Franceschi was outstanding earning his first collegiate clean sheet in a 2-0 home win over Jefferson on Saturday night and playing a strong game in a 1-1 tie at Southern New Hampshire midweek. In the two contest, Hugo made a total of nine saves.
From the volleyball team, Hailey Jessen (Fr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) was selected as the conference Player and Rookie of the Week and teammate Jaden Drollinger (Jr., Queens Creek, Ariz.) earned Setter of the Week accolades. Jessen was also named CACC Rookie of the Week last week.
Hailey averaged 5.50 kills and 3.3 digs per set in two Purple Knights' victories last week, as she slammed 33 kills with 20 digs. She also chipped in five service aces and four blocks, while hitting .301 on the week.
Drollinger orchestrated the UB offense on the week to the tune of 15.3 assists per set (92 total assists). She also averaged 2.50 digs per set and had four service aces and a block assist on the two matches.
Lucas Sousa from men's soccer was named to the CACC Honor Roll this week for his excellent play.
