Bridgeport Names Jim Sheehan as New Assistant AD for Athletic Communications
Sheehan arrives in Bridgeport with a plethora of experience in collegiate athletics. Most recently, he served as the Assistant Athletic Director for Communications at Pace University.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – University of Bridgeport Vice President of Athletics and Recreation, Jay Moran, announced today the hiring of Jim Sheehan as UB’s new Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communications.
“I am excited that Jim is joining our athletic communications team,” said Moran. “His experience, not only at the Division II level, but his knowledge of the northeast region should make him a great asset to us. We are thrilled to welcome Jim to our Purple Knights family.”
Sheehan arrives in Bridgeport with a plethora of experience in collegiate athletics. Most recently, he served as the Assistant Athletic Director for Communications at fellow NCAA Division II program, Pace University, in Pleasantville, N.Y.
While at Pace, Sheehan oversaw all aspects of media relations for the athletics department and its 15 collegiate programs. Amongst his responsibilities, Sheehan helped lead the Setters’ social media and live streaming efforts while also managing Pace’s official athletics website (PaceUAthletics.com). Sheehan also handled the department’s statistical and historical archives, in addition to many gameday communications and operations tasks.
Prior to Pace, Sheehan served as an athletic communications assistant at the University of Pennsylvania of the Ivy League. During his time in Philadelphia, Sheehan was the primary media contact for 12 NCAA Division I programs, including women’s basketball, volleyball, softball, men’s tennis, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, and men’s and women’s fencing.
Sheehan’s collegiate experience also branches out to the conference level, having served as the Coordinator of Sport Administration for New Media & Digital Communications at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) in 2014-15.
A Connecticut native, Sheehan earned a master’s degree in communications at Sacred Heart University in 2014. Sheehan served as a graduate assistant inside the athletic department, overseeing the media relations for nine Pioneer programs, including men’s basketball and football (NEC Champions).
Sheehan is also a 2012 graduate of the University of Connecticut with a bachelor’s degree in Coaching and Sports Administration.
