First-Year Purple Knights Place Number Eight In Preseason CACC Men's Lacrosse Coaches' Poll
UB's Inaugural Season Will Begin At AIC On Wednesday, February 22nd
New Haven, Conn-Wilmington University was picked first in the 2023 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Lacrosse Preseason Coaches Poll, which was released on Thursday by Commissioner Dan Mara. The Wildcats earned 54 points and five first-place votes, as the voting was conducted by the league's eight head coaches in the sport.
WilmU, which won the CACC regular season championship last spring and advanced to the conference final, returns several letterwinners from a team that went 11-4 overall and a perfect 6-0 in league play.
Two-time defending champion Chestnut Hill College was a close second in the 2023 poll with 51 points and a pair of first-place tallies. Georgian Court University rounded out the top three with 44 points (1 1st-place vote). The Lions won the CACC's first two men's lacrosse championships awarded in both 2018 and 2019. GCU reached the CACC semis last season.
The 2023 CACC Men's Lacrosse season gets underway on Saturday, Feb. 11, with Dominican College and WilmU in action. Dominican faces Mercy College, which reached the Division II National Championship last spring, while the Wildcats face Tampa University, which defeated Mercy to win the D2 title. The regular season is a buildup to the conference championship tournament, which will be held May 1, 5 & 7. The top-five teams in the standings following the regular season will advance to the postseason. The semis and final will be held May 5 and 7 at Post University in Waterbury, Conn.
