Julia Hansson And Biljana Savic Named ECC Players of the Week
Both Helped Their Teams To Perfect Weeks
Central Islip, N.Y.-Two University of Bridgeport student-athletes, sophomore Julia Hansson (Tockfors, Sweden) of the women's soccer team and freshman Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) of the women's volleyball team, have been selected as winners of weekly East Coast Conference awards in their respective sports. Hansson was named the ECC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the seventh straight week and eighth time this season. Savic was selected as the ECC Volleyball Rookie of the Week for the sixth time in 2011.
Hansson continued her top-notch play in net for the Purple Knights so far in 2011 as she notched her single-season school record twelfth shutout of the year in a 4-0 win at Pace on Tuesday and allowed just one goal in a 3-1 win over Queens on Sunday. At Pace, Julia made 10 saves, and versus Queens, she made seven stops for a total of 17 saves on the week. Hansson has a minuscule 0.25 goals against average having allowed only three goals in 16 matches, and her saves percentage is .959. As a team, Bridgeport finished the regular season with a perfect 16-0-0 overall record with Julia playing every minute of the season in goal.
Savic averaged 5.0 kills and 2.5 digs per set last week and had a .342 attack percentage as she helped the Purple Knights go 4-0 On the week, she totaled 70 kills and 35 digs in 14 sets played. She also had four service aces and one block assist on the week. For the season, she leads the Purple Knights averaging 4.14 kills/set.
