Jones and Matturro Tabbed as UB's Purple Knights of the Week (March 17-23)

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Following a plethora of superb outings on the diamond last week, juniors Mya Jones (softball) and Anthony Matturro (baseball) have been selected as UB's Purple Knights of the Week, for the week ending March 23.

Jones was terrific during a 4-0 stretch for Bridgeport last week. The junior went 8-for-12 (.667) with six RBIs as UB earned a pair of doubleheader sweeps. Jones also walked twice and scored three runs. She is now on a 10-game hitting streak while boasting a season batting average of .452 (3^rd, CACC). Jones is also currently leading the CACC in RBIs with 32.

Matturro was also outstanding at the dish for Bridgeport last week. The Long Island native went 9-for-21 (.429) with three RBIs and a walk. He also scored a pair of runs and hit three doubles during the six-game stretch. Matturro now has at least one hit in six of his last eight games while sporting a .286 batting average with four walks this season.
