Griva and Vandelli Selected as UB's Purple Knights of the Week (Sept. 8-14)
Angelina Griva, Women's Soccer | Edoardo Vandelli, Men's Cross Country
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – After rattling off a trio of terrific performances for their squads last week, Angelina Griva of the University of Bridgeport's women's soccer team and Edoardo Vandelli of men's cross country have been selected as UB's Purple Knights of the Week, for the week ending Sept. 14.
Griva delivered a standout stretch between the posts, recording 18 total saves across matches against SNHU and Assumption. She set a new career high with 12 stops in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Assumption, keeping the Purple Knights in contention throughout the match. Through four games this season, Griva has allowed only four goals, ranking second in the CACC in goals-against average (1.00).
Vandelli led the way for Bridgeport at Vassar's Ron Stonitsch Invitational on Saturday, finishing as the Purple Knights' top runner. The sophomore broke his own program record in the 6K by nearly 55 seconds, crossing the line in 20:13.5. His strong performance earned him 28th place overall in a competitive field of more than 100 student-athletes.
