Kenney and Azat Claim UB Purple Knight of the Week Honors (Jan. 12-18)

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Following standout efforts in competition last week, senior Abby Kenney of the University of Bridgeport's gymnastics team and freshman Sultanbek Azat of UB's swimming and diving squad have claimed UB Purple Knight of the Week honors for the period ending Jan. 18, 2026.
Competing against Division I programs Iowa State, New Hampshire and Air Force, Abby Kenney turned in another standout performance for the Purple Knights. The junior tied her career high on vault with a stellar 9.850, a mark that placed her in a tie for third overall in the event. Kenney also impressed on floor, registering a 9.750 that stood as the fifth-highest score of the day.
Azat played a key role in leading the UB men's team to a sweep of Wesleyan and Wheaton on Saturday. He delivered the NE10's top time this season in the 1000 free, touching first in 9:19.74 while winning the race by more than 35 seconds. Azat also captured the 500 free with a winning time of 4:40.55. He capped off his day by helping the Purple Knights' 400-free relay claim first place in 3:07.82.
