Ceyda Genç, Women's Swimming and Diving | Sultanbek Azat, Men's Swimming and Diving
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Following magnificent performances during University of Bridgeport's first-ever Northeast 10 Conference Championships this past weekend, freshmen Ceyda Genç and Sultanbek Azat of UB's swimming and diving teams have claimed Purple Knight of the Week honors for the period ending Feb. 15, 2026.
Genç made program history by capturing UB women's swimming and diving's first-ever NE10 Championship title, winning the 100-fly in 56.80. She also played a key role in the Purple Knights' gold-medal performance in the 200-medley relay. The Turkey native added to her medal haul with bronze finishes in both the 100-back and 400-medley relay. Genç's efforts were instrumental in leading Bridgeport to a fifth-place team finish at the conference championships.
Azat delivered a historic performance to help UB's men's swimming and diving team to the NE10 Championship in their first season in the conference. The Kazakhstan native was named the NE10's Most Outstanding Swimmer after capturing three individual conference titles and swimming on two championship relay teams. Azat dominated the field in his individual events, winning his three gold medals by a combined margin of more than 28 seconds. Even more impressive, he broke NE10 Championship records in all five of his races over the course of the meet.
