Brookville, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team opened its four-game, weekend East Coast Conference series with the LIU Post Pioneers on Friday afternoon by dropping an 8-2 decision on Long Island. UB is now 15-11-1 overall and 8-5 in conference play. LIUP is now 12-17 overall and 4-9 in the ECC.
Sophomore Daren Grabowski (Berlin, Conn.) drove in both Bridgeport runs on the day, and senior Alnaydo Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y.) plus junior Tyler Gambardella (West Haven, Conn.) each had two hits for the Purple Knights.
The same two teams will continue their series with a Saturday doubleheader hosted by Bridgeport at West Haven High School. First pitch is scheduled for 12 noon.
