UB Baseball Suffers Tough Saturday In South Carolina

Myrtle Beach, S.C.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team fell to 0-3 in the early 2019 season, as the Purple Knights fell twice in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, dropping a 10-9 decision in 10 innings to LeMoyne College to open the day and falling 10-4 to Southern New Hampshire University later in the day.

Against LeMoyne, UB led 9-8 heading into the top of the ninth, but the Dolphins pushed across a run to tie the game and plated the winning run on balk in the top of the tenth.

Sophomore Conall Roberts (Mt. Laurel. N.J.) drove in three runs and had two hits in Saturday's first game, and classmate Vincent DeRubeis (Trumbull, Conn.) had two hits, two runs batted in and blasted a home run versus LeMoyne.  Freshman Ryan Donnelly (Fairfield, Conn.) also chipped in two hits and a pair of RBIs early on Saturday.

In the SNHU contest, DeRubeis stayed hot banging out two more hits with a two-run homer, and Donnelly continue his excellent debut in a UB uniform, as he also had two hits and an RBI.  Freshman Joey Grillo (Sound Beach, N.Y.) knocked in the Purple Knights' other run versus the Penmen.

On Sunday, the UB baseball team will close out its season-opening trip to South Carolina on Sunday with a 12 noon tilt against Dominican (N.Y.) College.
