BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Beginning a stretch of three home doubleheaders to cap off the regular season, the University of Bridgeport's baseball team tallied a pair of decisive wins over Bloomfield College on Friday. The Purple Knights won both contests by 11-0 margins.
GAME ONE – Bridgeport 11, Bloomfield 0 (Seven Innings)
The Purple Knights set the tone on the afternoon sweep with five runs in the first inning of the opener. They went on to maneuver four more scoring innings en route to the run-rule victory.
Vin Mallon sparked the UB offense with a trio of RBIs, including a two-run double in the first inning that put UB up 4-0. He walked once as well and scored a run.
Christian Ortiz also knocked in a pair on a single in the fourth while Jeremy Rodrigues recorded an RBI knock in the fifth.
Bridgeport's 11 runs came on six hits, nine walks, 10 stolen bases and three wild pitches.
UB's starter Brendan Palmer pitched extremely well to pick up his third win of the year. The right-hander allowed just four hits across six scoreless innings.
Palmer finished with a season-best seven strikeouts before Thomas Stapleton secured a scoreless seventh out of the bullpen.
GAME TWO – Bridgeport 11, Bloomfield 0
The Purple Knights followed up their 11-spot in the opener with another 11 runs in the finale. UB's offense, which scored five runs in the fourth inning, finished with 10 hits, nine more steals and five walks.
Rodrigues provided the biggest offensive highlight of the day with a three-run home run in the fourth. He raises his program record to 25 long balls for his career, including nine this season (2nd in the CACC).
Rodrigues also hit an RBI single and scored three runs in the second win of the day. He is now batting a team-best .350 this season with a team-high 35 RBIs.
Ortiz followed up his two RBIs in the opener with three more hits in the finale, including his fourth career triple that scored Rodrigues in the first inning.
Anthony Matturro and Marcos Dominguez joined in with RBI singles of their own while Liam O'Neal walked twice and scored a pair of runs.
On the mound, it was another terrific start enjoyed by the Purple Knights. Junior Matt Wild posted a near identical stat line to Palmer in which he also went six scoreless with seven strikeouts.

The Purple Knights will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday prior to a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Bloomfield.
