Baseball Sweeps Bloomfield on Senior Day to Stay in CACC Playoff Hunt
Purple Knights now tied in the CACC standings for final playoff spot.

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Wrapping up a four-game series against Bloomfield College, the University of Bridgeport's baseball team swept a Senior Day doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Seaside Park. The Purple Knights put together wins of 16-4 and 12-0 to secure a four-game sweep of the Bears.
GAME ONE – Bridgeport 16, Bloomfield 4
UB matched a season best with their run total in the opener which consisted of six different players recording multiple RBIs. The Purple Knights piled up 11 hits, five of which went for extra bases, and initiated nine walks.
Jeremy Rodrigues piloted the Purple Knights' onslaught courtesy of a 3-for-4 performance with three RBIs and three runs scored. He launched his 10th home run of the season (2nd, CACC) in the second inning to put Bridgeport up 6-1.
Rodrigues, who is now batting a team-best .362 this season, has hit a school-record 26 home runs in his career. He also boasts 116 career RBIs which is also a program best.
Anthony Matturro homered in the opener as well. It was part of a 2-for-4 effort with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Marcos Dominguez also joined in with an excellent first game. The senior finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored, a walk and two RBIs.
Pitching wise, Tyler Hodella was terrific in his third win of the year. The junior allowed just two earned runs in six innings of work. He finished with six strikeouts.
GAME TWO – Bridgeport 12, Bloomfield 0
The Purple Knights put forth double-digit runs for the sixth time this season in the finale. UB racked up 10 more hits and seven more walks as they scored four runs in the second inning and six in the sixth.
Christian Ortiz tallied a team-best three RBIs in the second game, including a two-run triple in the sixth—his third three-bagger of the year.
Liam O'Neal, meanwhile, added two hits and three runs scored. He finished the doubleheader with six runs scored and six stolen bases.
Matturro followed up his terrific opener with another 2-for-4 outing in the finale. In the two games, he finished 4-for-8 with a walk.
Aided by a massive lead, a pair of UB's senior pitchers combined for the shutout.
Ryan DiLillo went 4.1 scoreless innings with five strikeouts while Zach Ridgeway put together 2.2 scoreless frames. They each allowed just one hit.

The Purple Knights will wrap up their regular season with a home doubleheader against Holy Family on Tuesday (noon).
