Baseball Swept by Holy Family to Finish 2025 Season

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Playing their final games of the 2025 season, the University of Bridgeport's baseball team was swept by Holy Family in a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. The Purple Knights, who narrowly missed out on the CACC playoffs, end their campaign with an overall record of 15-34 (13-23, CACC). 

GAME ONE – Holy Family 7, Bridgeport 5
The Purple Knights were unable to hold onto a 5-1 lead in the opener. Holy Family tallied five runs in the eighth to help secure the win.

In fitting fashion, it was Jeremy Rodrigues who piloted UB's offense. The senior captain finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a pair of RBIs. He recorded an RBI single in the first before drilling an RBI triple in the fifth.

Rodrigues caps off a sensational season and a superb career for UB. The Monroe, Conn. native batted a team-best .359 across 49 games played this spring. He led the Purple Knights in almost every offensive category, including RBIs (42), slugging percentage (.629), and on-base percentage (.453).

Vin Mallon tallied UB's other RBI hit in the first game on Tuesday. He singled in Rodrigues in the first inning to put UB up 3-0.   

On the mound, James Ackerman put together a terrific outing in his ninth start of the year. The right-hander allowed just one earned run with four strikeouts across six innings of work.

GAME TWO – Holy Family 10, Bridgeport 1
Jay Hamilton and Anthony Armenia led UB's efforts in the finale. Hamilton went 2-for-2 while Armenia launched his second home run of the season in the fifth inning.  

Mallon (1B) and Liam O'Neal (2B) also added hits in the second contest.

Thomas Stapleton saw the most success on the mound. The left-hander allowed just one run in three innings of action out of the bullpen.
