Baseball Drops Series Finale at Wilmington
Purple Knights move their record to 5-7 overall this season (1-2, CACC).
NEW CASTLE, Del. – Following a doubleheader split at Seaside Park on Saturday, the University of Bridgeport's baseball team dropped the finale of its three-game series against Wilmington on Sunday, suffering a 12-4 road loss.
UB struck first in the opening inning when Anthony Matturro lined an RBI single through the left side to score Raymond Morales, giving the Purple Knights an early 1-0 advantage.
Wilmington quickly answered with a run in the bottom of the inning and gradually built momentum, scoring once in the second before breaking the game open with a two-run third and a three-run fourth to take a 7-1 lead.
The Purple Knights attempted to chip away in the fifth inning. Anthony Armenia sparked the rally with a single and stolen base before Conor Lesczczynski knocked an RBI single. Liam O'Neal followed with an RBI double down the left-field line to trim the deficit to 7-3.
Bridgeport's final run came in the seventh when Andrew Sinclair scored on a throwing error after a stolen base by Michael Incontro.
Sinclair paced the Purple Knights offensively with a 2-for-4 performance, while Morales, Matturro, Armenia, Lesczczynski and O'Neal each added hits as Bridgeport finished with seven hits and five walks in the contest.
UP NEXT
The Purple Knights will begin a three-game mid-week series against Georgian Court on Tuesday. UB will host the Lions for a single game at 2 p.m.
