BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Locked in a pitcher's duel for eight innings, the University of Bridgeport's baseball team (10-16, 6-10 CACC) came up just short in a 3-1 loss to Holy Family on Saturday at Seaside Park.
Right-hander Tyler Hodella was sensational on the mound for the Purple Knights, firing seven shutout innings while allowing just two hits and striking out six to keep the game scoreless deep into the afternoon.
Bridgeport's pitching staff carried a 0-0 game into the ninth before Holy Family broke through with a three-run frame to seize control.
Offensively, the Purple Knights were limited to four hits, though they showed patience at the plate with seven walks.
Anthony Matturro reached base twice and scored UB's lone run, while Ryan Baldwin delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to get Bridgeport on the board.
