Men's Basketball Set To Face Southern Connecticut State To Open NCAA Division II Championship For Second Straight Season

Bridgeport, Conn,-For the ninth time under the direction of 15th-year head coach Mike Ruane and the 21st time in school history, the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team will participate in  the 64-team, NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament.  Bridgeport will head to the 2015 NCAA Division II East Regional with a 24-6 overall record after winning the East Coast Conference Championship Tournament on Sunday with an 82-78 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas College to receive the ECC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II championship   The Purple Knights will be the number four seed at the regional, and they will face the number five seed, Southern Connecticut State Owls, out of the Northeast-10 Conference on Saturday, March 14, 2015.  All games in the 2015 NCAA Division II East Regional will be played in Springfield, Massachusetts on the campus of American International College.   Game time for the UB/SCSU game is slated for 7:30 p.m.

# 2 Southern New Hampshire (21-7) vs. # 7 Stonehill (19-9)-2:30 pm
# 1 American International (23-6)  vs. # 8 Philadelphia U. (24-7)-5:00 pm
# 4 Bridgeport (24-6) vs. # 5 Southern Connecticut State (22-7)-7:30 p.m.

The 2015 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball East Regional semifinals will be played on Sunday March 15th, and the regional final will be held on Tuesday, March 17th.

The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team has advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament in the following years: 1968-72-73-76-77-78-79-85-89-90-91-92-2003-04-06-07-09-10-13-14-15.
