Men's Basketball Selected into NCAA East Regional as No. 8 Seed
Purple Knights will take on the No. 1 ranked team in Division II, Daemen University, next weekend in Amherst, N.Y.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Time to Dance! Following their CACC championship win earlier this afternoon, the University of Bridgeport's men's basketball team was selected as the No. 8 seed in the NCAA East Regional during Sunday night's NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Selection Show.
The Purple Knights will now have their sights set on the No. 1 ranked team in the country, Daemen University, next Saturday (March 15) in Amherst, N.Y. The Wildcats were selected as the East Region's top seed in large part to being the only undefeated team (27-0) left in the country this season.
Bridgeport completed a magical run to the program's first CACC championship on Sunday courtesy of a 67-57 win over Post in the conference finals. The Purple Knights' three victories in the CACC tournament all came against higher-seeded teams (Chestnut Hill, Dominican, Post).
UB was also able to exhibit a bit of revenge en route to their first conference title since 2015 (which came as part of the ECC). The Purple Knights were defeated twice during the regular season by both Dominican and Post before rattling off gutsy tournament victories on back-to-back days.
Bridgeport will enter its second postseason tournament with an overall record of 19-12. The Purple Knights have peaked at the right time, having posted a 10-2 record over their last 12 games.
