Men's Basketball Topples SCSU, 75-64, For First Win of Season
Purple Knights split their opening weekend inside Hubbell Gym.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Playing a second home game in a three-day span to begin the 2025-26 season, the University of Bridgeport's men's basketball team earned a 75-64 win over Southern Connecticut State on Sunday inside Harvey Hubbell Gym. The non-conference victory puts the Purple Knights' record at 1-1 in the early season.
It was another impressively balanced performance from the home squad, as 10 different Purple Knights scored a field goal—matching their total from Friday night against Franklin Pierce. UB also showcased its depth with four players finishing in double figures.
Junior Zay Sullivan once again led UB's offense with a team-high 18 points, going 6-for-8 at the line while adding three assists and two steals.
Sullivan has put together averages of 19.0 points and 3.0 assists in his first two UB games.
Malikai Delgado, meanwhile, did a little bit of everything for Bridgeport. The Massachusetts native finished the night with 13 points, a team-best five assists, and five rebounds, while shooting 6-of-12 from the field.
Jayson Handy matched Delgado's scoring output with 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including a team-best three made threes.
In the frontcourt, Jason Edokpayi posted 10 points, six boards, and a block, giving UB consistent interior production, and Jaheem Tyson provided a spark off the bench, grabbing nine rebounds and scoring four points in 20 high-energy minutes.
Defensively, John Dash Jr. played an extremely complete game with four points, four assists, four steals, three rebounds and a block, finishing as the Purple Knights' top disruptor in a game where they forced 25 turnovers.
