Men's Basketball Storms Past Georgian Court, 96-83
Purple Knights open second half with 18-1 run.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – A strong second-half surge once again proved decisive for the University of Bridgeport's men's basketball team on Saturday, as the Purple Knights pulled away from Georgian Court for a 96-83 win at Harvey Hubbell Gym. With the victory, UB moved to 3-1 in the CACC and 5-4 on the season.
The Purple Knights erased a one-point halftime deficit in emphatic fashion, opening the second half on an 18-1 run to seize control of the contest. UB led by at least 10 points over 15:40 of game time during the second half.
Bridgeport's defense keyed the surge, as the Lions struggled to find rhythm while UB consistently converted at the free-throw line and in the paint. It marked the second straight game Bridgeport held an opponent under 34 percent shooting from the field.
Graduate forward Jason Edokpayi led the way with a career-high 27 points while also pulling down 10 rebounds for his second consecutive double-double.
Edokpayi, who finished 10-of-13 from the floor, continues to rank second on UB in scoring this season (12.0 ppg).
Jayson Handy matched his season high with 16 points and added 12 rebounds to secure his second double-double of the year, while Jaheem Tyson also reached a season-high mark with 15 points to go along with eight boards.
Tyson chipped in a season-high four assists as well.
Zay Sullivan, who leads the Purple Knights in points per game this season (16.2), rounded out UB's double-figure scorers with 15 off the bench.
John Dash Jr. orchestrated the offense with a season-high and team-best six assists, helping Bridgeport generate balanced production throughout the lineup.
The Purple Knights were especially effective at the stripe, knocking down a season-high 29 free throws, and topped the 95-point mark for the third time this season. UB's 47 attempted free throws are the most in a game in at least 10 seasons.
