Men's Basketball Delivers 57 Second-Half Points in Win over Queens
Purple Knights, now 6-5 overall, open second half on 13-2 run.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Sparked by a 13-2 run to open the second half, which quickly erased a seven-point deficit, the University of Bridgeport's men's basketball team pulled out an 83-69 win over Queens College on Wednesday night. The non-conference victory puts the Purple Knights' record at 6-5 overall this season while remaining at 3-1 in the CACC.
Trailing 33-26 at the break, the Purple Knights erupted for 57 second-half points while shooting an impressive 21-of-32 (65.6%) from the field after halftime to seize control of the game. UB led for almost the entirety of the second half with their largest advantage at 16 points with 5:04 left in regulation.
Bridgeport's balanced effort extended beyond shooting, as UB held a 53-42 advantage on the glass and outscored Queens 29-16 in bench points.
Junior wing Isaiah Sullivan led all scorers with 22 points, marking his third 20-point outing of the season and keeping his streak of double-figure scoring intact in all 11 games this year.
Sullivan is now averaging a team-high 16.7 points per game which ranks seventh in the CACC this season. He is also averaging more than a steal and more than two assists per contest.
Graduate student Jason Edokpayi delivered a huge second-half performance on Wednesday, scoring all 19 of his points after intermission while collecting a season-high 11 rebounds.
Edokpayi, who now has three double-doubles over his last four games, is averaging 19.5 points and 9.5 rebounds during that span.
UB point guard John Dash Jr. also made his presence felt with 10 points and a season-best seven rebounds, helping fuel Bridgeport's decisive second-half surge and all-around team effort.
The Purple Knights showed off their depth in terms of bench production as well. Junior Shedrach Makanjuola led that unit with nine points on 4-of-5 shooting.
