Men's Basketball Downs Caldwell for Third Straight Win
Purple Knights improve to 5-1 in the CACC this season (8-5 overall).
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Wrapping up a five-game homestand, the University of Bridgeport's men's basketball team posted one of its most efficient offensive performances of the season on Tuesday night in a 92-84 win over Caldwell at Harvey Hubbell Gym. UB improves its record to 8-5 overall this season, including a 5-1 mark in the CACC.
The Purple Knights shot an even 50.0 percent from the floor (30-of-60), marking their second-highest field-goal percentage of the year, while also turning in a season-best 89.3 percent effort at the free-throw line behind 25 made foul shots—their second-highest total of the season. The victory marked the fourth time UB eclipsed the 90-point plateau this winter.
Bridgeport carried a slim 42-41 edge into halftime before steadily pulling away in the second half. A key 10–2 run midway through the period gave the Purple Knights their largest lead of the night at 70–59 with 9:15 remaining, and UB never relinquished control from there.
Strong bench production proved critical, as Bridgeport outscored Caldwell, 28-16, in reserve points while also holding a 34-28 advantage on the glass. UB had 10 different players record a field goal while eight different Purple Knights tallied at least one assist.
Graduate forward Jason Edokpayi delivered a dominant all-around effort, matching his career high with 27 points while also tying a season best with three blocks to go along with six rebounds. He ended up an impressive 15-of-16 from the free-throw line.
Junior Isaiah Sullivan continued his consistent scoring stretch, registering his fourth 20-point game of the season with 22 points while reaching double figures for the 13th consecutive contest. He also led the team with three steals.
John Dash Jr. added 11 points to extend his streak of double-digit scoring to four straight games, while Jayson Handy helped direct the offense with a team-high five assists.
Jaheem Tyson led UB's terrific bench with six points, four rebounds and four assists (t-season high).
