Men’s Basketball Narrowly Falls at Post After Late Comeback, 75-74
UB unable to complete comeback after erasing 15-point second half deficit to tie game with 35 seconds left.
MIDDLEBURY, Conn. – Despite rallying from a 15-point second-half deficit and pulling even with 35 seconds remaining, the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team came up just short in a 75-74 loss at Post on Wednesday night. The tight defeat moves the Purple Knights' record to 9-10 overall this season and 6-6 in the CACC.
Trailing by as many as 15 in the second half, the Purple Knights rattled off a 22-7 run over a 6:40 stretch to erase the deficit and pull even at 74-74 with 35 seconds remaining.
After Post converted a free throw with nine seconds left, Bridgeport's potential game-winning attempt at the buzzer rolled just off the rim, sealing yet another heartbreaking finish.
The narrow setback marked the third time in Bridgeport's last four losses that the Purple Knights were edged by two points or fewer, with the lone exception coming in overtime.
Isaiah Sullivan paced UB with a team-high 20 points, registering his eighth 20-point outing of the season, while Jason Edokpayi delivered a strong second-half performance to finish with 18 points — 15 after the break — and seven rebounds.
Edokpayi has now scored in double figures in 14 consecutive games.
Jordan Miller added seven points off the bench while tying Jaden Palmer for the team lead in assists with three apiece.
Jaheem Tyson led the Purple Knights with eight rebounds while Bridgeport's bench continued to be a bright spot by outscoring Post's reserves, 28–18. In all, 12 different Purple Knights found the scoring column.
