PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – In a game that featured 22 ties and 16 lead changes, the University of Bridgeport's men's basketball team came up just short in an 85-84 overtime setback at Holy Family on Saturday afternoon.
The Purple Knights once again showcased their depth, pouring in 53 bench points with 11 different players recording a field goal and 10 dishing out at least one assist.
Bridgeport also went 22-of-28 from the free-throw line and held advantages in rebounds (44-37) and points in the paint (48-32).
Jason Edokpayi delivered a monster performance with 26 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks, adding two assists en route to his 18th straight game in double figures and sixth double-double of the season.
Shedrach Makanjuola and Jaheem Tyson each added 12 points, with Makanjuola pulling down eight rebounds and Tyson contributing seven boards, a team-high three assists and two blocks.
After battling to a 73-73 tie at the end of regulation, the two sides traded blows in overtime.
Makanjuola's pair of free throws gave UB an 83-82 edge with under a minute to play, but Holy Family answered in the closing seconds to hand the Purple Knights their fourth loss of the season by two points or fewer and their second overtime defeat.
