Bridgeport Athletics Announces Leadership Change for Men's Lacrosse Program
The search for UB's next head coach will begin immediately.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The University of Bridgeport's Director of Athletics Anthony Vitti announced today that UB will make a leadership change within the men's lacrosse program. Steve Tempone, who has served as the head coach of the Purple Knights since the start of the program in the 2021-22 school year, will not return.
"I have spoken to Coach Tempone, and we have mutually agreed that it would be best for all parties if we went in a different direction regarding our men's lacrosse head coaching position," said Vitti. "I want to thank Steve for his dedication to the student-athletes on our men's lacrosse team and to the University of Bridgeport's Athletics Department. We appreciate him getting our program off the ground in 2022 and wish him nothing but the best in his future. We will begin a national search right away."
Tempone started the men's lacrosse team at UB which officially began play in the spring of 2023. He has led the Purple Knights to a record of 15-28 during the past three seasons. Tempone improved Bridgeport from one win during its first campaign to a record of 7-8 each of the past two years.
During Tempone's time at UB, the Purple Knights have garnered seven All-Conference selections while 14 student-athletes have been named to the CACC's All-Academic Team. Additionally, a total of 21 men's lacrosse players made the CACC's Academic Honor Roll following the fall 2024 semester.
The search for Bridgeport's next head coach will begin immediately.
