BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Following terrific efforts in his first two collegiate contests last week, freshman Matthew Hughes of the University of Bridgeport's men's lacrosse team has been named the CACC's Goalkeeper of the Week.
Hughes was excellent between the pipes for the Purple Knights, totaling 22 saves while surrendering just eight goals across 90 minutes of action. He was particularly sharp in Saturday's 10-5 win at Franklin Pierce, stopping 16 shots while going the distance in net.
Hughes consistently came up with timely saves to keep momentum on UB's side. For the week, he posted an impressive 73.3 percent save percentage.
Hughes and the rest of UB's men's lacrosse team will return to action next Wednesday (March 4) at No. 20 Molloy.
