Men's Soccer Tabbed Second In 2011 ECC Preseason Poll
Sophomore Markus Naglestad Selected East Coast Conference Preseason Offensive Player of the Year
Central Islip, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team has been tabbed to finish in second place in the 2011 East Coast Conference race in a preseason vote of league coaches that was released late on Tuesday. The Purple Knights amassed 50 points in the voting while defending ECC Champion and 2011 NCAA Division Men's Soccer Final Four participant, Dowling College, grabbed the top spot in the preseason poll with 59 points. C.W. Post with 47 points and St. Thomas Aquinas College with 33 points round out the ECC's predicted top-four finishers for men's soccer.
Sophomore Markus Naglestad (Kristiansand, Norway) has been named the 2011 Preseason East Coast Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Year. Naglestad put together an outstanding rookie season for the Purple Knights in 2010, earning both the ECC Offensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year awards. He guided Bridgeport to a spot in the ECC Championship final match and an 11-6-2 overall record by leading the conference in points (39), goals (15), and assists (9). Naglestad also sent home four game winning goals on the year. Markus also earned several All-American and All-Region honors in 2010.
The Purple Knights, under the direction of 12th year head coach Brian Quinn, will open their 2011 season at home on Saturday night, September 3 when they host local rival and nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University. Game time at Knights Field is set for 6:00 p.m.
