Bridgeport Men's Soccer Opens 2014 Season At Franklin Pierce On Saturday
Team Will Look To Blend In 16 Newcomers To Succeed This Season
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team, under the direction of fifteenth-year head coach Brian Quinn, will kick off its 2014 season with a road match versus Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, New Hampshire at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 6. The Purple Knights are coming off a 2013 campaign that saw them post a 9-7-0 overall record and a 7-3-0 East Coast Conference mark.
Ten players return from last year's squad, so Quinn and his coaching staff will be looking for immediate and quality contributions from the 16 newcomers to the program.
On defense, senior captain Christoffer Olesen (Kristiansand, Norway) has been selected as the 2014 Preseason East Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year. Along with his defensive prowess, Olesen also chipped in three goals and one assist to amass seven points in 2013.
Goalkeeper Agustin Prados (Madrid, Spain) returns for his third season in a Purple Knights' uniform. Last season, Prados had a 0.96 goals against average and five solo shutouts.
Junior forward Luis Fajardo (Danbury, Conn.) who had five assists last season is back to add depth to the UB offense, as is junior Erick Romero (Norwalk, Conn.).
Also back on defense for Bridgeport is junior Daniel Augenstein (Sandnes, Norway-two goals in 2013) and senior Michael Chmelowski (Windsor Locks, Conn.)
After opening the season at Franklin Pierce, the Purple Knights will start their 2014 home schedule with the annual UB Men's Soccer Classic on September 11 and 13. Joining Bridgeport in this season's classic are LIU Post, Merrimack and Bloomfield. UB will open its home schedule on Thursday, September 11 at 7:00 p.m. versus Bloomfield, and prior to that match, LIU Post and Merrimack will play at 4:00 p.m. The teams will switch opponents for Saturday's action with LIU Post facing Bloomfield at 4:00 p.m. and the Purple Knights taking on Merrimack at 7:00 p.m.
The UB men's soccer team will open its 2014 East Coast Conference slate of games at home on Friday, September 19 versus Roberts Wesleyan College. Bridgeport has made eleven consecutive conference championship tournament appearances heading into this year.
