NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Catapulted by a pair of goals in the final two minutes of regulation, the University of Bridgeport's men's soccer team earned an emotional 2-2 tie at Southern Connecticut State on Sunday afternoon. The Purple Knights move their record to 0-1-1 on the young season.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first half, Bridgeport stormed back with a pair of dramatic goals in the closing minutes. Kristians Prieditis sparked the comeback with an 89th-minute strike, and less than a minute later, Kaanturk Akgul buried the equalizer to complete the thrilling turnaround. Both goals served as firsts for a pair of UB newcomers this season.
Down 2-0 at the break, Bridgeport answered with a dominant second half that featured 14 total shots (compared to SCSU's three) and six corner kicks. The Purple Knights kept constant pressure on the Owls' defense. UB's goalkeeper Viktor Mašek stood strong with four saves to keep the score within striking distance.
Bridgeport and SCSU have now tied each other five consecutive times, dating back to the 2021 season.
