Cakurs Selected to United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-Region Team
One of just five student-athletes honored in the East Region.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Just a few days after being named an Academic All-American by the College Sports Communicators, senior Bruno Cakurs of the University of Bridgeport's men's soccer squad has been selected to the United Soccer Coaches' Scholar All-East Region Team. He is one of just five student-athletes recognized in the East Region.
Cakurs delivered a standout campaign for a UB men's soccer team that won the 2025 CACC Championship. He was named the CACC's Defensive Player of the Year in addition to securing First Team All-Conference recognition. He was also voted to the D2CCA All-East Region First Team and the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Second Team.
Anchoring UB's back line, Cakurs started 21 matches for a Purple Knight defense that held opponents to one goal or fewer in 14 contests. That unit also recorded a 0.9 goals-against average in conference play.
In addition to his on-field achievements, Cakurs has compiled an exceptional academic resume, maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA while completing 93 credits as a finance major.
His academic excellence was recognized in 2025 when he earned the CACC Top XVI Award, presented to the student-athlete with the highest GPA at the conference finals site. Cakurs has also been named CSC Academic All-District twice, selected twice to the CACC All-Academic Team, and earned the D2ADA Academic Achievement Award on two occasions.
Further highlighting his commitment to the classroom, Cakurs has appeared on the CACC's Academic Honor Roll on all four occasions.
