Swimming and Diving Sweeps Dual Meet at Assumption
Purple Knights combined to defeat the Greyhounds by a 347-118 margin.
WORCESTER, Mass. – Competing in a third straight NE10 dual meet, the University of Bridgeport's men's and women's swimming and diving teams each picked up wins at Assumption University on Friday. The Purple Knights combined to defeat the Greyhounds by a 347-118 margin.
MEN'S RECAP (W, 206-29)
The Purple Knights delivered a dominant performance on the men's side, winning every individual event and both relays in an impressive team showing.
Bridgeport opened the meet with a victory in the 200-medley relay, as Christian Toussi, Jurica Dragun, Maximiliano Pedrozo Sevila, and Camilo Villalba Vera combined for a swift 1:33.94.
From there, Bridgeport never looked back.
Pacome Sidelski set the tone in the freestyle events with a win in the 200-free (1:44.09), while Christian Toussi followed with a strong swim to capture the 100-back (50.44). Toussi also posted a victory in the 100-fly (51.09).
Dragun swept both breaststroke races, clocking 56.54 in the 100-breast and 2:07.19 in the 200-breast, and Ignacy Olownia added a pair of individual titles of his own in the 200-fly (1:57.57) and 200-IM (1:58.03).
Villalba Vera showcased his sprinting speed with wins in the 50-free (21.75) and 100-free (48.72), while Giancarlo Zamora took the 200-back (1:59.42) and Sultanbek Azat prevailed in the 500-free (4:40.18).
UB sealed the meet with another relay triumph, as Toussi, Villalba Vera, Sidelski, and William Crecca teamed up to win the 200-free relay (1:27.23), completing a perfect day for the Purple Knights.
WOMEN'S RECAP (W, 141-89)
It was more dominance on the women's side as the Purple Knights won all but three events against the Greyhounds.
Bridgeport opened the meet with a win in the 200-medley relay, as Hazel Clark, Cristal Margarita Gómez Rodriguez, Ceyda Genç, and Luca Olsen teamed up for a time of 1:53.70.
From there, UB's momentum continued across every event.
Olsen impressed with a pair of freestyle victories, taking the 200-free (2:01.10) and 100-free (56.17), while Clark swept the backstroke events with wins in the 100-back (1:02.13) and 200-back (2:18.84).
Genç added two more titles for the Purple Knights, winning the 50-free (26.02) and 100-fly (1:01.07), and Gómez Rodriguez grabbed the 200-breast (2:35.76).
Patricia Torviso rounded out the individual wins with a triumphant performance in the 500-free (5:37.70).
Bridgeport capped its sensational day with another relay victory, as Olsen, Clark, Pierina Ferraresi, and Genç combined to win the 200-free relay (1:43.96), sealing a clean sweep for the Purple Knights.
