Swimming and Diving Completes Day Two of ECAC Winter Championships
Purple Knights total 14 top-10 finishes, nine top-five performances.
EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – Saturday served as Day Two of the ECAC Winter Championships for the University of Bridgeport's men's and women's swimming and diving teams at the Nassau County Aquatic Center on Long Island. UB is facing a deep field that includes several DI programs in a championship-style format designed to prepare the Purple Knights for the NE10 Championships in February.
MEN'S DAY TWO RECAP
The Purple Knights put together another strong day highlighted by a series of top-five finishes and a first-place effort.
UB's 200-medley relay of Christian Toussi, Jurica Dragun, Maximiliano Pedrozo Sevila, and Camilo Villalba Vera opened the session with a fourth-place time of 1:29.85.
UB showcased its depth in the 400-IM, where Ignacy Olownia placed fifth in 4:05.72, Darcy Higgins won the B Final in an identical 4:05.72, and both Brady Stangl (18th, 4:14.24) and Noah Jones (20th, 4:17.67) added final finishes.
In the 100-fly, Toussi surged to second place in 48.99, Pedrozo Sevila captured eighth in 50.79, and Dillan Salgado finished 17th in 52.31.
The Purple Knights packed the 200-free standings, led by Sultanbek Azat's third-place time of 1:38.82 and Pacome Sidelski's fifth-place 1:40.25, with additional top-20 swims from Ryan Wall (13th, 1:43.06), Villalba Vera (14th, 1:43.32), Olownia (16th, 1:46.93), Henry Klode (18th, 1:41.93), Matt Burrows (12th, 1:42.63), and Aaron Williamson (20th, 1:44.75).
In the 100-breast, Dragun took third in 54.06 and Pedrozo Sevila added a seventh-place finish (56.61) while Giancarlo Zamora (11th, 52.54) and Stangl (18th, 53.40) contributed steady points in the 100-back.
On the boards, Juan David Urrea Vargas claimed the one-meter title with a winning score of 255.15.
The day concluded with a podium showing in the 800-free relay, as Azat, Burrows, Wall, and Sidelski combined for third place in 6:42.30.
WOMEN'S DAY TWO RECAP
The Purple Knight women turned in a balanced day of racing highlighted by several top-20 finishes.
UB opened with a ninth-place showing in the 200-medley relay, as Hazel Clark, Cristal Margarita Gómez Rodriguez, Ceyda Genç, and Ania Mrozik clocked a 1:49.08.
Patricia Torviso followed with a 13th-place performance in the 400-IM (4:48.41) while Genç added one of the team's top finishes of the day by taking fifth in the 100-fly at 57.89.
In the 200-free, Luca Olsen secured 12th place with a strong 1:56.59.
The Purple Knights placed three swimmers in the 100-breast standings, led by Gómez Rodriguez in 15th at 1:08.29, followed by Pierina Ferraresi (19th, 1:09.60) and Mrozik (24th, 1:12.51).
In the final individual swim of the night, Clark (14th, 59.56) and Genç (16th, 1:00.47) both finished in the B Final of the 100-back.
UB closed the day with an eighth-place finish in the 800-free relay, as Olsen, Gómez Rodriguez, Ferraresi, and Clark combined for a 7:58.92.
