Swimming and Diving Teams Sweep CSI in Home Finale
Purple Knights sweep all four relays, total 17 individual wins.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Competing at home for the final time this season, the University of Bridgeport's men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept a dual meet against the College of Staten Island on Saturday.
Women's Highlights (Bridgeport 132, Staten Island 79)
The Purple Knights turned in a dominant showing, sweeping both relays and capturing seven individual event victories.
UB opened the meet in style as the 200-medley relay quartet of Hazel Clark, Pierina Ferraresi, Anna Forlani and Ania Mrozik touched first in 2:06.27. Bridgeport carried that momentum into the distance events, highlighted by Patricia Torviso's victory in the 800-free with a time of 10:07.45.
Ceyda Genç put together a pair of triumphs, winning the 50-free in 28.29 and the 100-back in 1:09.10.
Forlani added another win to her day by taking the 200-IM in 2:33.62, while Cristal Margarita Gómez Rodriguez claimed the 100-free in 1:03.43.
Luca Olsen anchored the middle-distance events with a first-place finish in the 400-free (4:55.50), and Ferraresi picked up a victory in the 100-breast (1:18.94).
Bridgeport closed the meet in emphatic fashion as the 200-free relay team of Genç, Clark, Gómez Rodriguez and Olsen raced to a win in 1:55.71, capping off a commanding performance for the Purple Knights.
Men's Highlights (Bridgeport 173, Staten Island 48)
It was more dominance on the men's side as the Purple Knights totaled 10 individual wins while also sweeping the relays.
UB opened the meet in style as the 200-medley relay team of Christian Toussi, Jurica Dragun, Maximiliano Pedrozo Sevila and Camilo Villalba Vera touched first in 1:46.05.
Sultanbek Azat continued the early momentum with a dominant showing in the 800-free, winning in 8:26.58.
Toussi followed by claiming the 200-free in 1:56.77, while Dragun showcased his versatility with wins in both the 50-free (24.43) and the 200-IM (2:13.50).
Pedrozo Sevila added a pair of victories of his own, taking the 100-fly in 57.78 and the 100-breast in 1:06.60.
On the boards, Juan David Urrea Vargas swept the diving events with triumphs on both the 1-meter (220.20) and 3-meter (199.28).
UB also picked up individual wins from Pacome Sidelski in the 100-free (52.89) and Aaron Williamson in the 400-free (4:20.95) before closing the meet on a high note with a victory in the 200-free relay by the team of Azat, Brady Stangl, Henry Klode and Darcy Higgins in 1:41.52.
