Men's Swimming and Diving in First Place After Day Two of NE10 Championships
Purple Knights hold 10 total medals and 390.5 points through 16 events.
WORCESTER, Mass. – Propelled by a podium sweep in the 500-free and seven total medals earned on Friday night, the University of Bridgeport's men's swimming and diving squad remained atop the team standings after Day Two of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships. The Purple Knights currently hold 390.5 total points through 16 events.
It was sheer domination in the 500-free that piloted UB on Friday night. The Purple Knights posted an incredible 1-2-3 finish, highlighted by freshman Sultanbek Azat breaking a second NE10 championship record in as many nights.
Azat's final time of 4:26.75 eclipsed the field by more than five seconds as he added a second distance crown to his weekend resume.
Pacome Sidelski and Ryan Wall rounded out the podium for UB, placing second and third respectively. Sidelski maneuvered a time of 4:32.49 while Wall posted a 4:34.08.
Henry Klode added an A-Final finish as well with a seventh-place time of 4:42.03.
The 200-IM also saw an extremely crowded UB field. Ignacy Olownia led the way with a silver-medal effort (1:52.74) while Darcy Higgins placed fifth (1:53.94) and Maximiliano Pedrozo Sevila came in sixth (1:54.04).
Juan David Urrea Vargas opened the night for UB with a second-place performance in the three-meter dive finals. The Colombia native added 17 points to UB's team total courtesy of a final score of a 381.0.
The second event of the evening was also a second-place effort from the Purple Knights. UB's 200-free relay squad of Camilo Villalba Vera, Christian Toussi, Sidelski and Jurica Dragun nabbed the silver with a time of 1:22.78, which was just 0.31 seconds behind first-place Adelphi.
Bridgeport touched second in the 400-medley relay as well in the final event of the session.
UB's squad of Toussi, Dragun, Pedrozo Sevila and Sidelski combined for a silver-medal mark of 3:18.28, which was just 0.32 seconds behind Adelphi.
The final individual event featured a fourth-place time of 20.96 for Dragun in the 50-free while Villalba Vera touched seventh with a 21.21.
Brandon George also notched points in the 50-free with a 15th-place mark of 21.98.
