Men's Swimming and Diving Dominates Night Three, Extends Lead at NE10 Championships
Purple Knights add four more NE10 titles and seven medals to their growing point total.
WORCESTER, Mass. – Highlighted by four more conference championships and seven added medals, the University of Bridgeport's men's swimming and diving team extended its lead in the Northeast-10 Conference Championships on Saturday night. The Purple Knights now sit with 692 total points through 29 events. Adelphi sits in second place with 556.5 points.
Christian Toussi led the way for UB with a pair of NE10 titles on Saturday night, touching first in both the 100-fly and 100-back.
He began with a first-place performance in the 100-fly, posting a 49.34 which was just 0.03 ahead of the second-place finisher.
Camilo Villalba Vera (51.47) and Dillan Salgado (51.99) also supplied points in the 100-fly with respective finishes of 10th and 12th.
Toussi was even more impressive in the 100-back, swimming to a new championship meet record with a time of 48.90.
Giancarlo Zamora (52.16) and Brady Stangl (52.51) also competed in the A Final of the 100-back, posting respective finishes of seventh and eighth.
Pacome Sidelski grabbed UB's second NE10 title of the night in the 200-free. The Frenchman posted a triumphant time of 1:39.75.
Matt Burrows followed Sidelski in fifth place with a time of 1:42.42 while Henry Klode placed seventh in 1:43.57.
Aaron Williamson won the B Final of the 200-free, touching the wall in 1:44.13.
Jurica Dragun added the Purple Knights' third gold medal of the session with a top mark in the 100-breast. The Croatia native not only rattled off a victorious time of 54.56 but also set a new NE10 championship record in the event as well.
Maximiliano Pedrozo Sevila added a superb swim as well in the 100-breast, posting a fifth-place mark of 57.06.
Ignacy Olownia joined in with a medal of his own in the 400-IM. He placed second with a time of 3:59.63 while Darcy Higgins touched fourth in 4:03.90 and Brady Stangl finished seventh in 4:11.71.
On the diving side of things, Juan David Urrea Vargas earned his second medal of the championships with a bronze in the one-meter. The Colombia native tallied a score of 391.45.
The 200-medley served as the final event of the night. UB's squad of Toussi, Dragun, Pedrozo Sevila and Sidelski finished second with a time of 1:29.81.
